Information for Prospective Members

If you have already acquired all the information that you need and have decided to apply for Membership in the SGA, click here to go to the Membership Application Form. Complete the form and click on the "Submit" button. Your application will be transmitted directly to our Membership Director, and a message acknowledging your sub-mission of the form will be presented. The Mem-
bership Director will connect with you promptly.
If you are still just thinking about Membership, the following Q & A may help you. You are welcome to communicate directly with our Membership Director before or after completing an application - to do so, click here.
Question:
How can I become a Member of the SGA?
Answer:
If you have attained 55 years of age as of January 1 of the current year, all you need do is submit a Membership Application Form.
Question:
Can I try things out as a guest first?
Answer:
If you are thinking that you might like to join our group but want to try it out first, you are welcome to play once or twice as a guest during our regular season. Ask our Membership Director to make the arrangements.
Question:
What is the cost of Membership?
Answer:
The Fee for the 2024 season has been set at $100.00.
Should you apply for Membership part way through the season, our Membership Director will advise you as to the pro-rated amount of the Fee.
Each Member is required to bear the cost of each outing in which he takes part at the rate per outing negotiated with the golf course by the Outings Director. For 2023, the cost per outing (18 holes of golf and power cart) varied from course to course, but fell between $67.00 and $90.00 (but more for those outings that included a meal afterward, of course).
Question:
Am I required to attend at all golf outings?
Answer:
Generally, we expect each Member to take part in a minimum of 6 outings annually, although we do not have a hard and fast rule to that effect. Of course, if you make it to fewer than half of the outings, you will be considered a "half-miler".
Question:
I am just an average golfer. Will I feel out-of-place with the calibre of golf played by SGA Members?
Answer:
Not a chance. Most of our Members are average golfers at the senior level. We emphasize enjoyment and camaraderie.
Question:
At what time does the first foursome normally tee off?
Answer:
Occasionally, we will have a shotgun start, with a tee-off time agreed with the course. In most outings, however, foursomes will tee off in order, starting at 10:30 AM, although on some dates, first tee off may occur anywhere between 9:30 and 11:00 AM. Usually, there are twelve to fourteen foursomes per outing. For those occasional outings that include a meal, it will not be served until the last group has finished the round and its members have had a chance to visit the bar, lie about their scores and relax a little before eating.
Question:
Is there a dress code?
Answer:
Members and guests are expected to conform to the dress code of the particular course. If the course has not published a dress code, the SGA asks that Members and guests avoid jeans, and wear collared shirts only. If your wardrobe prohibits compliance with this minimal requirement, we can't help you. But once you have acquired suitable duds for the next outing, we can offer you a stylish SGA cap at reasonable cost.
Question:
Is there a code of behaviour?
Answer:
Each Member is expected to conduct himself in a manner that conforms with the usual guidelines of Golf Etiquette. In particular, compliance with the rules of the day regarding the use of power carts ("cart path only", "90 degree", "no carts on greens"), as set out by the particular golf course, is expected, as is overall respect of the course (repair of divots on the fairway and ball marks on the green, raking of sand traps even if you get out in only one stroke) and compliance with pace of play guidelines. Anything less than full compliance with these fairly minimal standards will be considered Extremely Poor Form.
